Say hallo to a bunch of barking huskies that are ready for action (but still very friendly). You´ll drive the dog sled by yourself into the white landscapes, through the beautiful Vass valley- an uninhabited forest landscape surrounded by majestic mountains.
Upon arrival at our wilderness camp, you´ll receive outdoor clothes and shoes to keep you warm during your stay. You will get instructions on how to drive a dog sledding team by experienced mushers (click here for instructions).
You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each sled, with the opportunity to switch places half way. The trails you follow have a total distance of approximately 10-12 km, and you will be on the sled for about 1,5-2 hours. At the end of the trail you will return to Camp Tamok. There you will be served a hot meal and fresh coffee in the dining lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent).
Warm clothes and neccecary equipment included
Tromsø ice domes
Set among high mountains in the beautiful Tamok Valley, Tromso Ice Domes is built every year as the Polar Night approaches.
The snow and ice art reflects the unique bond between man and nature in a unique and breath-taking manner. The ice bars, our Ice cinema, the ice hotel bedroom and ice restaurant have themes ranging from local Sami culture to the Northern Lights conveyed through beautiful colored lighting and wonderful ice sculptures.
On arrival at Tromso Ice domes, you will be greeted by your guide who will share their knowledge about the construction process of an ice hotel and guide about the impact the snow has for the survival of our arctic animals. A non-alcoholic ice shot at the stunning ice bar is complementary. You will be able to purchase other drinks and order a delicious meal of locally produced bacalao, which will be served in the ice restaurant.
Please note that as we maintain a temperature of minus 5 ˚C inside the ice domes, we recommend our guests to wear warm winter clothing.
Welcome to a once-in-a-lifetime experience of snow and ice magic in the Arctic wilderness!
Snowmobile safari gives you the opportunity to venture far into the wilderness. Experience the mountains of the far north.
Upon arrival at the wilderness centre of Camp Tamok, we provide you with all the warm clothes and shoes necessary. We begin the adventure with a thorough safety introduction and practical demonstration (click here for instructions). You don´t need any previous skills to drive a snowmobile, all you need is normal physical condition.
You will be driving in pairs, one driver and one passenger on each snowmobile, with the opportunity to switch places during the trip. We will embark upon a tour that will bring you past scenic mountains and through the dramatic snow covered Finn valley, starting at 250m above sea level and climbing up to 900m. The trail has a distance of 15 km each way, 30 km in total, and you´ll be on the snowmobile for approximately 2-2,5 hours.
Due to the dramatic topography, a reduced speed is maintained during parts of the tour. The top point of the trail is the ice-covered lake of Finn, where you can relax and admire the scenery of Finndalen. If time and weather permit, you can try out ice fishing on this lake. At the end of the trip, you will be served a hot meal and coffee in a cosy dining lavvu (Sami tent), surrounding the bonfire.
Warm clothes and neccecary equipment included
Arctic Circle Expedition
You will drive on-road and off-road, and the latter can be somewhat challenging. You will be surprised how the Arctic Truck navigates through the snow. Before setting off, you will receive thorough instructions of how to operate the vehicle. You will drive with one or two passengers in addition to the guide. You will be able to switch places during the trip, so everyone gets the opportunity to drive. You will drive about 20 km on the road before heading off-road. As your guide will explain, you must deflate the tyre pressure before driving into the deep snow. This widens the tyre surface and increases the vehicle’s ability to float on the snow. Your Arctic Truck experience will involve both uphill and downhill driving in challenging terrain.
Note: If you can drive a normal car, you can drive an Arctic Truck. All you need is a regular driving licence and a sense of adventure.
Warm clothes and neccecary equipment included
Vollan Gjestestue opened for the first time on the fourth of July. 1948 by founder Gudrun «Guri» Lydersen. Guri opened Vollan Gjestestue after she bought the property from the Norwegian government at the price of 12.000 NOK in 1946. This was concidered a formiddable feat from a widow with 6 children. The building was constructed by german troops during World War 2 and was used by german officers. The oldes part of the cafè stands today as it did back during the war. During the last 70 years, multiple renovations and expansions to tthe building in order to provide even better food, experiences and overnight stays. We at Vollan Gjestestue stribe to keep our tradition and identity through food, interior and casual and informal service.
Polar Park is an animal park in Bardu municipality in the county of Troms.
Opened in 1994, the park is based on exhibiting animals in their natural surroundings which means that each species also gets a lot of room to romp around.
With 1100 dekar (1 dekar = 1000 square meters) in only 12 enclosures, the Polar Park is one of the animal parks in the world with the most area per animal.
Rohkunborri National Park is only 12 km from Polar Park.
Polar Park is more than a traditional zoo. We place great emphasis on animal welfare. We give animals large areas to create a habitat as natural as possible for the animals.
Our main goal is to create a Norwegian wilderness experience with the beautiful surroundings of Northern Norway’s nature as a setting for your visit to Polar Park.
If you only have time for a short visit, we recommend that you join the guided tour at the predator feeding time or book a private guided tour before arriving at the park, as it can be difficult to see all the animals within a short time since due to the large areas they live in.
Polar Park is open almost every day throughout the year and a winter visit can be just as good as a summer visit.
Actually, a winter visit is recommended. Then it is possible to see the animals in their thick winter coat. In winter the animals are also more active because of the low temperatures (apart from the hibernating bears). The mating season for wolves and lynx typically fall between February and April.
Wolf Visit was established to ensure better welfare of wolves in captivity, increase knowledge, and to offer you a unique wilderness experience. The wolves are socialised and accustomed to associate with humans at close range.
We give you the unique opportunity to meet the wolves in Polar Park inside the enclosure. Our team will be with you all of the time and tell you everything you need to know about wolves.
In order to enter the enclosure you must be at least 18 years old, be minimum 160 cm, dressed suitably, be in good physical shape (no hurting knees or limping) and be able to speak English well enough to understand and follow instructions given by the animal keepers (no translation is allowed, the animal keepers have to be able to communicate with all the participants). Polar Park’s main concern is safety, for both visitors and animals.
